5/1/2012 Physicals and Summer Workouts  ~ Coach Ditmer

Some info to all who are interested in CHS Gymnastics!

1. Physicals. Every high school athlete is required to have a current physical on file with the athletic department in order to even try out for a high school sport. Once again, the high school is offering physicals to middle and high school students on May 16 and 17 from 6-8pm at the Yankee Medical Center near Southview Hospital. Forms can be obtained at the athletic office or online.

2. Summer Workouts. We will work out this summer at Tops on Mondays and Wednesdays from noon to 2pm.
Workouts begin June 11 and end August 1
During the week of June 18, we will practice in the evening because Tops has camp during the day
Cost for the summer is $225, plus a $40 administrative fee. All registration and payment is done at Tops.
All middle school and high school girls who are interested in competing for CHS are welcome, so tell your friends.
All seniors are welcome to attend, whether you just miss gymnastics or want to get a head start if you are competing college club gymnastics.

Any questions -- please let me know.

See you all soon!
Coach Jennifer

Hope to see you then,

9/20/2011 Pre Season News  ~ Coach Ditmer

  Hi Gymnasts and Parents,

It's hard to believe, but the high school gymnastics season is just 6 weeks away. Tryouts for this year are Saturday, November 5. Please read this entire email carefully, and save it, as it contains a bunch of information.

1. Pre Season workouts. As in the past, we will begin in October with pre-season workouts at Tops and at the High School. These workouts are optional. You do not have to attend in order to be considered for the team. It is just a good way to start working on those skills that may have gotten rusty.
Mondays -- 7:30-9:30 at Tops Gymnastics. If you choose to do this, the fee is $45 for the month of October. You will also need to pay the $40 annual fee, if you did not pay it already this summer. Bill Ritter, Renee Boutillier and I will all be running these workouts.
Wednesdays -- 3:15-4:15 at CHS upper gym. This will be a conditioning session. Bring your gym shoes, as we may be running. This will be combined with abs, arms, legs, and core strengthening exercises. This is free. Bill Ritter and I will be running these sessions.
Thursdays -- 7:00-9:00 at Tops Gymnastics. This is the Tops High School Class. I believe the fee for this is $45 as well. Check with Tops to be sure. However, if you do this and the Monday workouts, Tops will probably give you the 10% multi-class discount and you will NOT have to pay another annual fee. This class is taught by Tops instructors.

2. Informational Meeting on October 4th during lunch at CHS. We will be having pizza and a veggie/dip tray. Bring your own drinks and come during your lunch period. PLEASE BRING WITH YOU ANY FRIENDS WHO MAY BE INTERESTED IN JOINING THE CHS GYMNASTICS TEAM! I would also like seniors to work on t-shirts and leotards at this meeting. Please let Mrs. Bosscher know if you are coming.

3. Concessions for Girls Soccer on Saturday, October 15. I apologize for the confusion on this one. We have always done football concessions, so I incorrectly assumed we were working another football game, but it is actually the Girls JV and then Varsity Soccer games against Kings HS. THE GAMES ARE ON THE SOCCER FIELD BEHIND MAGSIG MIDDLE SCHOOL. Thank you to all who have signed up to work so far. We still have one spot left to fill, so please check your calendar. The shift is almost 5 hours long, so I don't mind if you split it with another family. However, only one person can sign up. You must be 14 to work in the concessions stand. Must be 18 to handle money. We need to fill all the slots, so we get our $2500 Tops Gym time paid by the Athletic Boosters. I'd hate to have to split that cost between the gymnasts' families.

4. Tryouts for the 2011-2012 Season are November 5. YOU MUST HAVE A CURRENT PHYSICAL IN ORDER TO TRY OUT. Not sure if you are current? Check with Mrs. Bertram in the Athletic Office. No exceptions for this. We will begin our "in-season" workouts at Tops on Thursday, November 3. "In-season" means the fee is covered by the Athletic Boosters. It also means you do NOT have to pay the $40 annual fee to tops. However, everyone must have a new registration and medical card filled out at the Tops front desk. The cards are yellow.

5. In Season Workouts, November-February. Three of the four days are firm.
Mondays -- 7:30-9:30 at Tops
Thursdays -- 7:30-9:30 at Tops (first day is Nov. 3)
Saturdays -- 12:30-3:30 at Tops (until meets begin in January)
Our fourth day will be at the High School and will either be Tuesday or Wednesday right after school.

6. Fees. In order to prepare you (and your checkbooks) for the costs associated with CHS Gymnastics, I've broken down some approximate costs for the season.
$150 pay to play (this goes to Centerville City School District)
$50-$100 dues (this goes to Centerville Gymnastics Boosters and covers the cost of our third coach, new equipment, State t-shirts, some State expenses, the Banquet, gifts for gymnasts and coaches)
$50-$150 leotards (I know this is a big gap, but it all depends on whether the girls decide to get both new warm up and competition leos, and what style they choose)
$10-$50 for spirit wear (only the Centerville Gymnastics t-shirt is required, but there may be other items available like sweats)
$75 for warm-ups (we will keep the same style as last year, so this is only if you need new)
$20 for Banquet (I am basing this on $10 per adult. The Gymnastics Boosters pays for the gymnasts)
So your final cost is between $300-$550 depending on your circumstances. At the parents meeting, which we will have shortly after try-outs, I hope to have a final number for everyone, so that you can write a check on the spot, or determine some kind of payment plan with our Treasurer, Jane Kessler. In past years, we have had fundraisers so that families could reduce their overall payment to the Gymnastics Boosters. I will leave that decision up to you parents and will support any decision you choose.

I am really excited to start the season. We had such success at State last year and I'm hoping that will inspire the girls to work hard again this year.

Please contact me directly with any questions you may have.
Thanks,
Jennifer Ditmer

5/12/2011 Summer Workouts  ~ Coach Ditmer

Summer workouts will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12-noon to 2pm at Tops Gymnastics on Paragon Road. We begin on June 13 and go until July 27. The cost is $185 for the summer plus the $40 member renewal fee to Tops (they will let you know if this is due.) Summer workouts are a great way to keep up with your skills. Any CHS student who is interested in the 2011-2012 Gymnastics Team is welcome to attend. We also invite Centerville Middle Schoolers to participate as well. Any questions, send me an email!
Thanks,
Coach Ditmer

10/18/2010 2010-2011 Tryout Information  ~ Coach Ditmer

  Hello Parents and Gymnasts,

Tryouts for the Centerville High School 2010-2011 Gymnastics Team will take place on Saturday, November 6 from 12:30-2:30 at Tops Gymnastics on Paragon Road. In order to be considered for this year's team, you must attend tryouts. I understand SAT's are being administered that day. Please come to the gym after you've finished your test.

We have a large group of returning gymnasts as well as a large group of interested gymnasts. For that reason, I would encourage all the athletes to attend the pre-tryout workouts that will be held as follows:

Monday, November 1st -- 7:30-9:30 at Tops
Wednesday, November 3rd -- 3:15-5:15 at Tops
Thursday, November 4th -- 3:15-5:30 at CHS

These workouts are not required in order to make the team, nor will your presence there influence any final decision regarding selection. They are, however, a great opportunity to work on your skills so you are ready for Saturday's tryout. These workouts are free of charge. However, you must have a physical, conducted by a doctor, on file in the CHS Athletic Department, in order to participate in both the pre-tryout workouts and tryouts. There can be no exceptions granted.

Once the team is selected, we will have a brief parents' meeting on Monday, November 8 at 9pm at Tops Gymnastics. It is mandatory that every gymnast have at least one parent present at the meeting. We will discuss each athlete's financial responsibility, pictures (which are November 14 at 3pm) and leotard/warm-up purchases.

Thank you for your support of our team. If you have any questions, please contact me directly.

I am looking forward to the start of a great season!

Sincerely,
Jennifer Ditmer

10/3/2010 Pre-Season Begins Oct. 4  ~ Coach Ditmer

  Hi Gymnasts and Parents,

Just a reminder that our pre-season workouts begin tomorrow, October 4th at Kids Are Tops (Paragon Rd.) from 7:30-9:30pm. These workouts are optional. By OHSAA rules, we cannot require athletes to be at gymnastics practices until November 5. However, this is a great chance to sharpen your skills.

The cost for the four Mondays in October is $45, payable to Tops Gymnastics. In addition, you may be required to pay a yearly membership fee to Tops of $40. If you are already in another class at Tops, you've probably already paid this fee. Once the team is selected in November, the fee for gym time at Tops is $0 until the end of the season. However, you are still required to pay the yearly membership fee if you have not done so already. Also, Tops will need a medical form to be filled out at the front desk. If you are coming tomorrow night, please arrive at Tops by 7:15 to fill out the necessary paperwork and pay the fee. Bring a parent as their signature is required on the medical form! No one will be allowed into the gym without first checking in at the front desk. Tops is a wonderful friend to CHS Gymnastics and we need to abide by all their rules and regulations.

Also beginning this week -- our conditioning workouts. These will be held on Wednesdays (October, 6, 13, 20 and 27) at the upper East gym at Centerville High School from 3:30-5:00. This is absolutely free! Feel free to come to all four sessions, or as many as you can, for as long as you can. We will condition on and off the equipment to build up our strength for the season.

If you have not had a physical yet, you may come to pre-season workouts. However, a physical on file in the Athletic Director's office is necessary before you can participate in tryout workouts starting November 1st and before you may try out on November 6th.

Hope to see many of you tomorrow. If you have any questions, please contact one of us.

Thanks,
Jennifer Ditmer, Head Coach
Bill Ritter, Assistant Coach
Nicky Bosscher, Assistant Coach
Christy Willett, Assistant Coach

9/19/2010 Pre-Season Information  ~ Coach Ditmer

  Hello Gymnasts and Parents,

Believe it or not, gymnastics season is right around the corner. I know many of the girls are anxious to get back into the gym even before we officially start things up in November. So here are a few options.

Tops will let us do an "Open Gym with Coaching" night (like we did in April) for the month of October. This would be on Monday nights from 7:30-9:30 pm. The cost for the month of October is $45. Once the season starts in November, the HS Athletic Boosters pay for our gym time at Tops. Anything in the off-season, we need to pay out of pocket. If you are interested, the first Monday is October 4. Just show up, fill out the necessary forms and pay for the class. You may also need to pay your yearly membership fee at Tops at this time.

Tops offers a High School class on Saturdays. Please call or check their website for the time. If your daughter is enrolled in this, and you choose to do the Monday night as well, Tops will give you a 10% discount on the Monday class.

We will be doing a conditioning day at the High School, either Wednesday or Thursday, beginning at 3:30 or so. As you may have heard, we are having a pizza party for the returning team members, we well as any interested girls, on Tuesday, September 21st. I will poll the girls there about which day is better for them.

There are still a few slots left to sign up for to sell football concessions. The deal is this: We volunteer to work a 5-hour shift at a home football game. In return, the Athletic Boosters pays for all of our gym time at Tops from November-February. This is a fabulous deal! Please sign up to volunteer at http://athleticboosters.volunteerhub.com/Events/Browse.aspx.

Beginning November 1, our practice schedule looks like this:

Mondays -- 7:30-9:30pm at Tops
Wednesdays -- 3:15-5:15 at Tops
Thursdays -- 3:15-5:30 at CHS
Saturdays -- 12:30-2:30 at Tops

Any questions, please let me know.

Jennifer Ditmer

9/9/2010 Informational Luncheon!  ~ Coach Bosscher

Gymnasts interested in competing for the CHS Gymnastics team are invited to an informational meeting/luncheon on Tuesday, September 21st, 2010, in the PDC. (That is the meeting room on the 2nd floor directly above the main office.)
Info on optional pre-season workouts, practice dates, physicals, tryouts, etc.. will be discussed.
Please join us during YOUR LUNCH PERIOD. We will be there to answer questions during both lunches. Bring your own drinks.
See you then!

6/7/2010 Summer Workouts  ~ Coach Ditmer

  Hi Gymnasts and Parents,

As the girls finish up with their exams, it's time to think about the beginning of our summer workouts. Summer workouts are open to any CHS gymnast, as well as any girls (incoming freshmen included) who are interested in competing Elk gymnastics this school year.

Our workouts will be held at Tops Gymnastics on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30-2:30*. Workouts will begin on Monday, June 14 and end on Wednesday, July 28. The cost for the 7-week session is $175. To register, please fill out the appropriate paperwork at Tops. You will need to renew your yearly membership at Tops if it is expired, as well as fill out a new medical form there.

This year, the goal will be to perfect basic skills as well as develop the higher level skills that can lead to higher scores. Gymnasts will work on all events. However, there will be a focus on vault and bars, two areas where our team scores need improvement.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

See you all on the 14th,
Jennifer

*On June 21 and 23, workouts will be from 7-9pm, due to Tops Team Camp running during the day.

5/13/2010 Health Physicals  ~ Coach Ditmer

  Hi Gymnasts and Parents,

Once again, physicals are being offered at Yankee Medical Center on Monday, May 17 and Tuesday, May 18 from 5:45-8pm (both days.)

The cost is $15.

Remember, you have to have a physical every year in order to compete a high school sport. A current physical is required to even try out in November.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks,
Jennifer

4/30/2010 Reminders  ~ Coach Ditmer

  Reminders:

We will not meet at Tops on Thursdays in May. If you want to get into the gym, check out the Saturday class from 1:30-3:30 or Open Gym on Friday nights.

Physicals will be offered on May 17-18. I will get more info on time, location and cost. Everyone needs a current physical in order to even try out for the team.

Summer workouts begin June 14 at Tops. All current and interested gymnasts are welcome to attend. This includes incoming freshmen. Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30-2:30. Exception -- on June 21 and 23, we will work out from 7-9pm due to Tops Team Camp.

Tops Team Camp is open to all CHS gymnasts. It runs June 21-24 from 9-4:30. Call the gym for more info.

Conditioning -- please do whatever you can during May to keep your conditioning up. We don't have the luxury of having a lot of time for conditioning, so anything you do on your own is a good idea -- running, bicycling, roller blading, swimming, etc. And remember to stretch!

2/9/2010 Meet Cancellation  ~ Coach Bosscher

The home meet scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 9th, is cancelled due to the weather. See us in action at the Anderson Invitational on Saturday.

11/1/2009 Workouts Begin This Week  ~ Coach Ditmer

  Hi Gymnasts and Parents,

Just a reminder that this week begins our gymnastics season work-out schedule.

Mondays and Wednesdays 3:15-5:15 at Tops

Thursdays 3:15-5:15 at CHS

Saturdays 2:30-4:30 at Tops

According to OHSAA regulations, you are not required to come to practice until Saturday, November 7. But it might be nice to get into the routine of things right away at the first of the month.

Tryouts will be Saturday (11/7) and Monday (11/9) during our regular practice times. I cannot say whether there will be cuts or not... it will depend on the number of gymnasts trying out, as well as the level of effort put forth during tryouts.

Hope to see you all this week at Tops!

Thanks,

Jennifer Ditmer
